Hello Aiman,

It's wonderful that you want to volunteer. Volunteers are very much needed and valued. Adding to the great advice that you received in this forum, you can also go to Google enter: Volunteer Opportunities and your zip code. Just know that you have a huge range of opportunities from working with seniors, homeless, animals, kids, repairing bikes for children, fixing homes, painting, etc. Really, the question comes down to "What are your interest?" or "What do you think you may be interested in?" This is an opportunity to explore different areas and find out what you could be interested in. Not only will you be helping but it can help you in understanding your career choice for the future. An example would be working in a humane shelter with the animals. They use their volunteers to walk the dogs, hold & play with the kittens, talk to people about the animals. Being there you get exposure to what it would be like to be a veterinarian or an animal cop.

If you don't like the choices of what is being offered in the volunteer match and other sites, then make your own opportunity. For instance, if you are a musician then bring music to the seniors. You would do this by contacting the senior center and asking for the head of the volunteers, tell them your intent, make a schedule of when you can go and your in business. In summary, have fun and enjoy! Know your service is needed whatever you decide to do. The payoff to you is great: learn skills, fulfillment out of helping others and it will helps for college.

The best ways to make an impact locally is to assist in a community event. Find out when their next event is and contact the coordinators to find out if you can assist with setup/teardown/security/serving/etc. Good luck!

There are many areas to volunteer near your area. For example Youth Sports Organizations as a volunteer coach. That is just one idea other areas to look into are elderly care homes, hospitals, Boy's and Girl's Clubs, etc.

You can also make an appointment with your high school counselor and they may have more ideas for your local area.

Good Luck!

Search for a nearby food bank or animal rescue center. Connect with your friends and find out what they're doing to accumulate volunteer hours, then see if you can participate with them. If you engage in this activity with all of your buddies, you're certain to meet your volunteering goal!
