I am hoping to go into theater as a profession, what are the best steps to take in highschool to help me get to that point?
I am going into sophomore year, I finished freshman year with a 3.8 GPA. I have been in 2 musicals so far. First one, highschools production, only freshman with a role. Second one, a lead role at a community theater, and I auditioned for a supporting role. I don't really have the money for singing lessons, but I've done choir. And I'm taking advanced acting and intro to dance at my school. Thank you! :)

Look for auditions! I’ve been performing since I was six, I’ve done over 90 shows, and it’s because I tried to do every little show. But that stressed me out. So I recommend you look for auditions online for popular shows, and you go from there. You audition, get the rope, rehearse for 6 weeks, then in about 5 years, you’ll be on broadway! I have a couple of friends who have been on broadway, and it’s because they work hard. Work your hardest and try your best so that you can get what you want.

1) Read as many plays as you can! Understand the character arcs. Why is each character important to that play? Why are they there? And, why is that scene important, why does this scene have to happen for your character in relation to their arc?
2) Volunteer for as many theaters as you can. Be around the craft as much as you can.
3) Watch as many informational interviews/podcasts as you can. Actors on Actors on youtube is great, and so is Off Camera with Sam Jones.
4) Take as many classes as you can. As an actor, you never stop your education. Just by experiencing life, you are becoming a better actor.
