How do I become a circus preformer and what are some tips?
I'm currently in the ninth grade and have been doing aerial silks for six years. I really want to turn aerial silks into a career because it's something I really enjoy and I'm great at it.

Hi Fiona,
First that is an amazing skill to have - it looks so cool, and also looks to be very challenging! I think you may want to consult your instructors to ask them what a future would like for an aerial silk performer, and what they think career options may be available to you. They may say that you are good, but not good enough to go professional and give you ideas for working on certain skill sets - just be prepared to listen with an open heart and take the help where it is needed. Next I would look at Cirque de solei and other performance companies to see what the requirements are. Seeing as you are still young and in your first year of high school you have plenty of time to figure out what your future looks like. Keep in mind there may be the opportunity for you to pursue other fields as well and keep this as a hobby, or a professional hobby (teaching) at the same time. I would ask around and do some internet sleuthing to see what the particulars are around aerial silks and how people became professionals, and also what that world is like (is it very grueling, are you traveling a ton, is there a lot of wear and tear on your body)...just some things to keep in mind as well as what the positives look like (are you traveling a lot!, do you get to meet really cool people, are you in fantastic shape mind and body wise). You have so much potential ahead of you and with a little work you can learn more about your passions. Keep an open mind and see what life brings you :-)
