What HBCU'S would be recommended for girls interested in majoring in Political Science?

I'm interested in majoring in Political Science and minoring in business for my bachelor's degree. I'm officially at senior so I need to start figuring out what college I'm going to.

Thank you comment icon Are you interested in leaving the state or stating in your home state? How far are you willing travel and how much would you be willing to pay for tuition? Also, What do you want to do with the political science degree? I'm a big proponent of researching your schools, going to their websites, finding their admissions page and submitting an email to get more information about the school and possibly have a phone conversation or a zoom meeting. Most admissions teams are really good with their quick responses. This would be a great place to start. Murph, Erlis

A. Michelle’s Answer

There are several HBCUs with strong political science or business programs. For political science, Howard, Hampton and Spelman are among the HBCUs with top-notch programs. For business, Howard and Florida A & M have well-recognized programs. If a school does not have both, find out if they have a partnership with a nearby school that does. Also, look beyond academics to see what opportunities for career exposure, networking, mentorship and internships in these fields each HBCU provides.

A. Michelle recommends the following next steps:

Research HBCU programs in the two areas.
Leverage your network to connect with people who majored in these fields at an HBCU to get their input. Focus on people who graduated in the last 10 years.

Brandi’s Answer

Hello there,

Venturing into the realm of Political Science can be an exciting and rewarding journey. A close friend of mine, who I've known since our kindergarten days, earned her PoliSci degree from Howard, a renowned HBCU. The university's location in Washington D.C. offered her an invaluable opportunity to immerse herself in the political landscape, facilitating access to a wealth of internships.

Spelman, another prestigious institution, has produced notable alumni like Stacey Abrams. This could very well be an excellent choice for you, offering a platform to follow in the footsteps of such influential figures.
