While there aren't any specific classes you need to take to participate in NCAA sports, the NCAA does have certain rules and guidelines. You'll also need to register with their eligibility center. The NAIA has a similar system in place.

In high school, you'll need to take and maintain a GPA of 2.3 or higher in 16 core classes. Here's a breakdown of what you'll need:

- 4 years of English
- 3 years of math (Algebra 1 or higher)
- 2 years of natural or physical science
- If your school offers it, 1 year of lab science
- 1 more year of English, math, or natural/physical science
- 2 years of social science
- 4 more years of English, math, natural/physical science, social science, foreign language, comparative religion, or philosophy

By the end of your junior year, you should have completed 10 of these core courses. Out of these 10, seven should be in English, math, or natural/physical science. The grades you get in these seven courses will be "locked in," meaning you can't retake them to get better grades.

Remember, most college coaches prefer athletes with higher GPAs. They might even require you to have a higher GPA to be eligible to play each season. So, keep your grades up!

Keith’s Answer

The NCAA prioritizes "student-athletes", with emphasis on "student" first. To be eligible to play, you need to meet a certain grade point average or score on standardized tests. Graduating from high school is a must. So, focus on your studies as much as you do on your sports training. This way, you'll attract the attention of an intercollegiate program that values your unique skills.
