Daniela’s Answer

hello kayla,
you do not need to go to college, you just have to get licensed with the state you want to sell in, so all you need is take the courses and take the test and you are good to start looking for brokers and start your journey.

Qualifications to be a Realtor? There often times much confusion with the term "Realtor" as I will explain while answering your question.
First the term "Realtor" is a registered collective membership mark that identifies a real estate professional who is a member of the National Association of REALTORS® and subscribes to its strict Code of Ethics. Membership is composed of residential and commercial real estate brokers, salespeople, property managers, appraisers, counselors, and others engaged in the real estate industry.
To be a member one must first obtain a Real Estate License from the state where they plan to do business, (each state has there own licensing boards and policies). As for the college question, there are universities and colleges that offer degrees in Business and Finance in Real Estate. For example, in my state of Florida, the state recognizes the 4-year degree for licensing and because it provides a comprehensive curriculum in the many facets of the real estate industry, with summer internships in actual comapnies in the industry (invalueable experience). However, most state offer an alternative, real estate pre-license classes (usually 63 to 72 hour certificate courses) that prepare one for the state Real Estate License exam for licensure. So, college degree not required in most states; but a degree in those degree programs for real estate provide a thorough route to the license.
I teach the pre-license course here in Tampa Florida, and can tell you its a path to a license; but a degree in real estate is a path to a fulfilled career with some hands on experience through the internship program included in the degree. Check your individual state licensing boards for the criteria in your state.

You don't need college, but it very much helps. I was a real estate major which was obviously great, but a degree like finance would be good.
