Thomas’s Answer

A few years back, I was exactly where you are now. Remember, it's not about what you like versus what you create. Instead, it's about expressing what you truly FEEL. If you find yourself crafting something that doesn't align with your usual taste, take a moment to understand why you were drawn to create it. If your heart is set on composing only in the genres and styles that resonate with you, then embrace that intention fully. Ask yourself, what is it about punk, indie, and alternative music that captivates you? Incorporate those elements into your own music.

Sergo’s Answer

The best part about this kind of frustration is that the outcome is that you create your own style.

You should definitely be influenced by everything you like to listen to and want to produce but stand on the side your heart leans into more. If you are not satisfied still, that only means that there lies the opportunity to grow even more as an artist.

Understand and feel the music as a form of self-expression, because being someone you are not in music - always leads to a fast and long hiatus and eventually you'll gonna break up with music for good.

Jared’s Answer

That’s fine that you have a love for something but not necessarily mirroring how you produce. For me, I love J Dilla & 9th Wonder but I never make records that sound like it. Whatever you create naturally and effortlessly, keep doing that and getting better at your craft.

Just be yourself and create your own lane and have fun.

Nicolas’s Answer

I couldn't do those styles either, but you can always do Hip Hop. I thought that when I first started making music it was a form of release, and really something people didn't perceive me as and something I wasn't. If you struggle with doing those styles make sure you consider all styles. Like you can't see yourself doing those styles I couldn't see myself speaking up period. Look at MGK and tell me, do you think he ever thought of himself doing what he's doing now as a performing artist? It's a hard feat to obtain, but for the 2 million who do it it is something that comes natural, and Hip Hop is natural, and evolving. We need your voice!
