What is the best way to decide what career path/major will be best for you?
I have classes, resources, and experiences that would be very helpful for both nursing and data science, yet I am torn between the two. I would love to have a career in data science, yet I can't help but worry about the job security in that field. I have more experience in the areas of computer science and programming, yet I also have a lot of resources that would help me get a stable career in nursing.. Help?

This is a great question! Simply answered, I would recommend to step your foot into multiple areas. If you find that what you are currently in or studying does not satisfy and appeal to what you want to do in the future, then you can easily shift away from that one area and focus in another. In college, I knew that I wanted to focus my studies in general business. However, that is all I knew. After focusing my studies in multiple areas of business, I found my way into Human Resources where I currently am working in today. I received my MBA focusing specifically in Organizational Behavior and Human Resources, and currently have a position as an Human Resources Administrator for a Sam's Club distribution and fulfillment center. You will never know what you like until you dip your foot in the water and tread through several areas!
Dimply put, you do not have to settle on the first major that you decide. You never know what you'll find until you step your foot out there and test the waters!
I hope this helped, and good luck in your endeavors!
Thank You

The truth of the matter is, the only real way to discover if a career is the right fit for you is by diving in and experiencing it firsthand.
I strongly suggest you reach out to individuals who are already working in the roles that interest you. Ask them to paint a picture of their typical workday for you. This will give you a genuine insight into what you can expect.
Take me, for instance. As a data scientist, my day is mostly spent in front of a computer. I frequently engage with individuals from various teams in diverse roles, and a significant portion of my time is dedicated to exploring data to unearth valuable insights. Once I have all the necessary information, I weave a compelling narrative using the data. There are instances where I have to persuade others to make decisions based on data. And sometimes, I have to sift through heaps of information, only to find that it leads nowhere.
In the current job market, there are moments when I ponder over job security and consider other possibilities.
Remember, your career path is a series of choices, filled with numerous crossroads. It's not a decision you make just once. Don't hesitate to venture in any direction. Ultimately, the job that brings you joy and satisfaction will have a lasting place in your life.
I hope you find this advice useful.

-When it comes to any sort of career decision, I always recommend looking into what aligns directly with your passion and fuels that inner excitement. Both of the fields you have chosen are valuable, but they involve different skill sets and responsibilities. This also brings up the point in which you mentioned having experience in computer science and programming, which can be advantageous in data science. Consider the classes and activities where you excel and feel most confident. Are you naturally drawn to coding and analytical thinking, or do you find fulfillment in helping and caring for others in a medical setting?
-Think about your preferred work-life balance. Nursing often involved shift work and can be very demanding, especially in today's time. On the other end of the spectrum, data science roles may offer more flexible hours and remote work options. This can play a huge factor in how each career path aligns with your personal lifestyle goals.
-Concerns about job security are valid. Take the time to research the job market for both nursing and data science in your region. While job markets can always fluctuate, having an understanding of the current state can help you make a more informed decision.
-With all being said you can also look into the aspects of how far you can advance in each field. Consider how you can further your education and skills in each area to keep up with industry advancements and career progression.
Ultimately, this is a personal decision that requires careful consideration and self-awareness. It is notable to remember that many professionals change careers throughout their lives, so whichever path you choose doesn't need to be a permanent one. Embrace the fact that your interests may evolve, and it's okay to adapt accordingly. I believe in you, trust yourself, and your ability to make a well-informed decision. You have the advantage of exploring both nursing and data science, so take the time to weigh your options and choose the path that feels right for you at this stage in life. Speaking on behalf of all mentors, we are here to support whichever decision you choose as there is no wrong answer! If you have any other questions please feel free to reach out and I will be happy to help! Good luck!!
