Hi! Here are some simple tips to get you started with your college plans. Remember, they are dependent on your situation, wants, and needs.
1. Study Hard: Get good grades in high school and take challenging classes if possible.
2. Prepare for Tests: If the college needs SAT or ACT scores, practice and do your best on these tests.
3. Join Clubs and Activities: Get involved in things you like outside of class, like clubs, sports, or helping in the community.
4. Ask for Recommendations: Get teachers or other adults who know you well to write positive letters about you.
5. Write a Good Essay: Tell the college about yourself in a personal essay. Show them who you are and what you care about.
6. Look at College Requirements: Different colleges want different things, so find out what each one needs and do your best to meet those requirements.
7. Visit Colleges and Do Interviews: If you can, visit the colleges you like. Some may offer interviews, which are a chance to talk about yourself.
8. Meet Deadlines: Be on time with your application and everything they need.
9. Show You're Interested: Colleges like to see you're interested in them. Visit their website, attend their events, or talk to their representatives.
10. Think About Money: If you need help paying for college, research financial aid and scholarships. Fill out the FAFSA form for federal aid.
Last but not least, stay positive: Applying to college can be tough, but stay positive and don't let rejections bring you down. There are many good colleges out there, and the right one will be a good fit for you. Good luck!

Ok prior response is excellent but let me add one key element…. Imagine you’re the admissions office reading thousands of applications… no matter what they say or think, this gets tedious. Not just the same background grades, clubs, etc but even the essays.. So how do we break that?
STAND OUT from the crowd! Schools want unique and successful alumni which makes them look good. So try to do unique activities, volunteering, etc.. I personally got into better schools than friends with higher test scores and grades because I ran Carnivals for MD and raised a lot of money.
Good luck!
