I agree with Niha great answer.

College will take bare minimum four years a lot of people are taking an extra year to prepare for medical school applications and improving their application whether that is through volunteering, shadowing, club work, work experience ect. The schooling is hard and competitive and all during that time most people will be adding some of these other activities to make themselves competitive for medical school.

Medical school itself takes four years then you will choose what residency you will do and these can range from 3-7 years typically.

This is a long process and it is important to remember that this is a marathon and not a sprint. Every day I am in the clinic I learn something new and it may only be one thing, but I am absorbing new material. Medicine in all fields require a love for learning because things are constantly changing.

Great question and if you have anymore let us know and we will do our best to answer them.

Niha’s Answer

To be a doctor, you are looking at a minimum of 8 years of school if you choose to go straight through and are accepted right out of your undergraduate years. Following that, you will have a residency that will take another 3-4 years depending on your field of choice.

The material you will be required to know for college, medical school, and residency is vast, and in addition, you will also be required to study for the MCAT, and several board exams the span from medical school to the end of residency. It is doable, but takes real dedication to be an MD.

Sana’s Answer

It depends on country like I am from Pakistan it took 3 yrs to complete MCAT prep then get into medical school it took 5 yrs of mbbs then 1 yr internship
Now you get into postgraduate degree which took 4yrs to complete part2 training any subspecialties of mbbs like medicine, gynae and ob's , surgery and paediatrics major along with whatever speciality you want to pursue including pathology, psychiatry, behavior science so overall 10 yrs must needed to become a dream Dr that you want to be
Studies are not difficult you will learn everyday new research updating yourself regarding every subject or any research so there is no chance of getting bored doing studies to become Dr if you are passionate and dedicated toward your profession .

Nicolas’s Answer

It takes 8 years on average. It is a different world of information though, so be ready to dive in! When I say it's a different world of information, I mean you have to have a keen ability to learn and understand concepts, ideas, and things. There are left minded and right minded people. A left mind has to do with communication and writing, and right mind has to do with imagery and where you are positioned. Believe it or not, Doctors are right minded people. So, if you can identify which you are it is much easier to decide if your mind has a keen ability to pick up on foreign concepts, ideas, and things. Remember there are many and I mean many different areas of medical services you could look into, and not all positions require the extensive training. For example, an anesthesiologist makes as much as a Doctor if not more, so be prepared to make an informed decision about what you want to do, and not necessarily how much time it takes to get it done.
