Dr. Kelly’s Answer

Hello Kevin,

If you're seeking a job that concludes when school resumes, you should focus on roles classified as temporary or seasonal. Typically, the recruitment for these roles, such as summer camp counselors, lifeguards, or positions at amusement parks and entertainment centers, begins around March or April.

While retail or food service jobs might be conveniently located, be mindful that competition could be stiffer. This is because these businesses are often looking to fill a vacancy left by a single employee, rather than hiring a large group of new staff members all at once. Exceptions might be a newly opened establishment or a seasonal ice cream stand.

To make your job search more enjoyable, try to find a position that matches your hobbies, preferred work environment, or future aspirations. This way, you'll find the experience much more rewarding.

Yanna’s Answer

It's crucial to be tactical when it comes to timing your job search. As a high school student, you might want to look into retail stores or fast food restaurants to see if there are any job openings. For college students, it's advisable to frequently visit the career center and stay informed about when companies will be visiting the campus for recruitment. Make sure you're aware of the recruitment schedule so you don't miss out. Another great resource for finding potential part-time jobs is Indeed.com. If securing a paid job proves challenging, think about volunteering. This not only provides you with invaluable experience but also boosts your chances in future job hunts. Best of luck!
