Mission Statement (Choose your values, my values are what I hold near and dear. They can be principles, standards, or beliefs that you find most worthwhile. What do you want to achieve ultimately Review your goals and priorities)?

I need to work on my Student Educational Plan for college

Thank you comment icon Hi Irene! An educational plan is a great way to get you thinking about what you want from the college experience and your future career. Michelle has good advice to help you get the ball rolling on your mission statement, but ultimately, it's up to you to do some soul-searching on what is important to you. Take some time to think on this. We'd love for you to come back and update your question with more info about yourself on any early ideas regarding your values, interests, and goals (it doesn't have to be school related!), our Professionals can be even more helpful. yoonji KIM, Admin

I’ve always imagined that I’d get an award later in life and someone would have to introduce me. By imaging how that person would introduce me (what did I accomplish, how did I do it and what values are the expressing about me) could give me a beginning for my statements.

Having these will serve you well and give you a North Star when deciding which careers to pursue and decisions you will make. I will say, these will change over time, so take a deep breath and do what’s best for where you are in life today.

Michelle’s Answer

Hello, Irene !

Putting together a personal mission statement is a good beginning. It is an opportunity to examine what is important to you, what you have come to believe about personal service in work, and can also be a guideline and reminder in all the work performance that you do. So it is wonderful to know that you are working on it.

When thinking about what the statement should say, first come up with what your long range goals are. Once you have that, decide what ethics, values and virtues should go into what you do and what the outcome for who you serve should be. Think of an element in the field of work that may need improving and think of what goes into improving it. Unless you can provide more information, my advice will be very generalized.

So you are basically answering three questions in a statement: What, Why, and Who (will benefit). To be more precise, you're stating what you want to do, why it needs to be done and how people can benefit from what you do. Ask yourself what you would like to improve, create or change. Think about what mark you'd like to leave on the world. Jot down ideas and come back and piece it together. It is brief in its written form but will make an impact and introduce you as unique.

I saw a template for mission statements which may make it easy for you. I think this may be a good guide for it :
"I will [action] for [audience] by [skills] to [desired result]" You can complete it with your own personal mission words.

I hope this has been a bit of a help for you. I wish you well on writing a wonderful personal statement and do not hesitate to ask more questions.
