Hi Lucas,
I work in clinical research and I have met several people from nursing background. Many of these people use their medical and patient knowledge and go into areas such as clinical trials, medical writing, regulatory affairs, drug safety, and other roles in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industry. Look up career pages on big pharmaceutical companies like JNJ, Bayer, Merck, Genentech, etc to get an idea if that industry would appeal to you.
Hope this helps.
Thanks,
Herman

Some places where I've seen nurses (varying levels of obviousness):
1) Doctor's offices. Working for a doctor in a private practice is significantly different than working in a hospital, but what it's actually like depends on the kind of doctor you're working with.
2) Living facilities for people who need significant medical care- rehab centers, retirement homes, hospices.
3) Community clinics, which provide education and basic health care to various local communities.
4) Pharmacies/Minute clinics. If you get a nurse practicioner certification, you'll be allowed to prescribe medication; CVS and other pharmacy chains have set up "minute clinics" which let patients to come in for simple conditions that require only a quick diagnosis and prescription (e.g. antibiotics for strep throat).
5) International health care organizations. If you've got an appetite for travel, nurses are also needed by organizations such as the WHO and Doctors without Borders.
