Hi Annabelle,

Try to choose your college major based on your greatest interests and aspirations. Your future occupation should be in the scope of your interests, talents and abilities. If you feel that the discipline of IT is right for you, go for it. If not, reconsider your academic passions and make necessary efforts to better understand your career interests!
All the best.

Great you're thinking about your future! You don't need to have all the answers yet -- or ever. You can try various jobs to get a feel for what you might like to do. You can also participate in volunteer activities to broaden your experiences.

Talk to a high school counselor about choosing a college. They have worked with many students who were looking for help in making these decisions.

With every good wish!

What are the activities that truly captivate your interest? Do you find joy in working with your hands, crafting tangible results? Or does the intellectual challenge of research and paperwork appeal to you more? Are you thinking about college mainly because it's seen as the 'next step'? The reason I'm asking is because there's a huge demand for skilled workers in the trades. Careers like Carpentry, Electrical work, Plumbing, Welding, and Machining are not only valuable but also exciting paths to consider. Plus, many of these professions are closely tied to technology, adding an extra layer of intrigue.

Jerome’s Answer

I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do until halfway through college. Whereas most look at college and think they have to have it all sorted, you can use the first couple for years to explore new things and help guide your decision for a major.

Take some of the pressure off of yourself through knowing that you have more time than you think.
