Hi A'Santi,

I will not add to the other answers, but on a different topic: you may want to check with local law about legal working age and possible legal liability.
Many internships in computer science dealing with cyber security require to sign up liability waiver as you are touching companies' critical infrastructures. And depending on where you are searching for an internship, the legal age may change.
In order to find out, I would encourage you to use your high school councilor If this is legal in Georgia, that person may be able to help you find proper companies.
I suggest you also seek job searching engines like indeed.com (but there are many others) to search internships in the area you are targeting.

Also, as the other say:
- get familiar with a coding language and software engineering in the first place
- get familiar with software security

If you're starting high school this fall, it's crucial to familiarize yourself with popular computer languages used today. I recommend starting with Python. To enhance your understanding, try writing sample applications.

Python, along with GO, Java, and C++, are frequently used in the Cybersecurity field.

Once you've gained these skills, start looking for potential employers in the Atlanta area. Even though they might be few, these companies could greatly benefit from your abilities and might offer you an internship. Smaller companies are more likely to give you a chance.

Don't limit yourself to paid internships; unpaid ones can also provide valuable experience and help build your resume.

Hi A'santi Good question! I think the best place to start is reach out to Best Companies to Work for listed companies. Many larger companies generally have internship programs as well. A structured internship or project-based internship is a great way to get the knowledge and potentially learn what you like. It will also feel great to accomplish a project-based internship to show how you work, what your outcomes were etc. Google searches on Top 100 companies, 'best companies to work for' award could be good places to start. Also you may want to think about industries you like, industries salaries for cyber and determine your top criteria for a company you want to work for.

Excellent question! Cybersecurity is a vast and exciting field, teeming with job prospects. Particularly in Atlanta, where there's a thriving hub of cybersecurity firms. Just a quick Google search for "cybersecurity high school internships" will reveal a wealth of opportunities. One organization that stands out is CISA, a government organization I became familiar with during my tenure at a bug bounty platform company.

The government sector is a goldmine for opportunities in this field. So, don't limit yourself - explore both federal and state governments. It's a chance to contribute positively to the country while gaining invaluable experience.

Being in Atlanta, you're in a prime location. From my previous role, I can tell you that the city is home to numerous consultancies and pen testing companies, including big names like Deloitte and several mid-sized ones.

If you're keen on discovering vulnerabilities independently, consider exploring bug bounty platforms such as HackerOne or BugCrowd.

Here's wishing you all the best in your journey!
