Nida’s Answer

Hi Carolina,

The criteria for admission can vary greatly from one university to another, as each institution may prioritize different qualities in their prospective students. However, there are several common factors that most universities consider:

1. Academic Excellence: Achieving high grades and standing out in your class is essential. A strong GPA and a high rank among your classmates can significantly enhance your chances of admission.

2. Participation in Extracurricular Activities: Balancing academics with extracurricular activities demonstrates your ability to manage multiple responsibilities and work as part of a team.

3. Community Engagement: While not always mandatory, involvement in community service or local projects can showcase your commitment to making a positive impact in your community.

4. Standardized Test Scores: Scoring well on standardized tests such as the SAT or ACT, or on state-specific exams, can strengthen your application.

5. Leadership Roles: Holding leadership positions in clubs or groups, either within or outside of school, indicates your ability to positively influence others.

While these are good starting points, it's important to research the specific requirements of the universities you're interested in. Most institutions provide admission criteria on their websites. Additionally, reaching out to current students at those universities can provide valuable insights into what helped them secure their admission. Best of luck!

McKenzie’s Answer

Focus on keeping your grades up, especially in the last two years of high school. Try to take AP classes if you're able. Join clubs and after school groups and try out for the leadership roles in those clubs! Any leadership roll in school clubs are great to include in your application. Volunteer on the weekends with an organization you like. These experiences will also help you answer questions in your school applications and may even give you a story to write about for the larger essays. Good Luck!

Amalya’s Answer

To get accepted into a college, you should have a strong application. It should include a great motivation letter/statement of purpose. It is necessary to describe why you are among the best candidates applying the college.
To write a good college essay, you need to be attentive, check your writing style and grammar structures, and express your academic and non-academic achievements.

Dhimant’s Answer

There's a wealth of online resources out there to help you get a handle on essay writing. Remember, it's important not to simply copy and paste content from the internet into your essay. Begin by crafting your essay and creating a rough draft, then refine it through several revisions. It's always a good idea to have someone else review your work to ensure it's clear and understandable. Hope this helps! Good Luck.

Tess Carly’s Answer

Hi Carolina!

That depends on what you’re looking to go to school for.

If you don’t yet know, you might want to look into community colleges first if you do not want to take a break after high school (assuming you’re currently a student). Some people might want to work right away after high school, while others want to stay in the flow of academia so they don’t forget what they already learned.

Community college allows you to take core classes that can be transferred to a higher university later without spending as much as if you went to a university.
Core classes are needed before you can start taking classes related to your major, which are higher-level courses.
You can also use that time in community college to explore what majors and career paths interest you.
Community colleges also typically do not require any sort of essay to be accepted, you just have to apply for the upcoming school year by the school’s application deadline. You can check specific requirements on the college’s website.

If you DO know what you want to go to school for, research what schools have the major you’re interested in pursuing. See if the pre-requisite classes (entry level classes you take during the first few semesters at college needed to take higher-level classes of your major, such as math, english, and science) can be transferred to a 4-year university (a lot but not all degrees require a 4 year degree, which if the equivalent of a bachelors. A 2 year degree from a community college is an associates) so you can save money by taking core classes at a community college first. This is personal preference and has saved me thousands by not going to a 4-year university right away. That’s your choice, however.

You can always reach out to the school directly, specifically the department you are looking to major in, and ask what requirements you need to get the degree and what careers the degree offers.

As for a good college essay, a lot of schools will have prompts for you to base your writing around. Look up examples of other essays admissions online related to the topic or field of study. You can always ask a teacher or someone you find knowledgeable to proof read it for you.
Be as authentic as possible, be creative, and make sure the essay is relevant to the topic you’re writing about.
If the essay is about why you want to be accepted into the school, talk about personal experiences close to you that motivate you to want to apply. Talk about how you’ve hear that the school and the major you’re choosing is related to what you want to do in life.
Try to include how the knowledge gained at their institution will help you give back to others in some way.

I hope this helps, let me know if you have any further questions!
