Jenna’s Answer

In the US, you have to have a bachelor's degree, which is usually 4 years for a full time student. After you are accepted into law school, it's generally a three year law school program for a full time student to earn your law degree. Part-time programs often take longer. You will also have to pass the bar exam, which is given twice per year, and you generally study for that after you graduate, then it takes a few months to get the results. Good luck!

Hi Tyler,

I'm so happy to hear that you are considering going to law school! You will first need to go to college and get a Bachelors degree. This usually takes 4 years. After you receive your Bachelors degree from college, you apply to law school. It takes 3 years to finish law school. After you've graduated from law school you will need to get your license to practice law by taking an exam called the Bar exam. Once you've passed the exam you are a lawyer! Good luck!!

Deborah E.’s Answer

You must obtain a Bachelor's degree first before you enter law school. The Bachelor's degree can take 4-6 years depending on your status as a student and which degree program you choose. From there, you would apply to law school your senior year, or some students take a year off between college and law school. Law school for a full-time student is 3 solid years. You usually intern during the summers, but may graduate in 2.5 if you take summer courses as well. Graduating from law school earns you a Juris Doctor degree. From there, you will take the Bar exam in any state in wish you desire to practice law. Many non-traditional lawyers never take the Bar exam and enter into a non-traditional legal career. However, corporations will want you to be barred in the State in which you live/work. Hope this information helps! Good luck!!!
