Hi! I believe that utilizing resources like Coursera could be greatly beneficial for your college application process. Moreover, if you're open to exploring fields different from your current area of study, Coursera provides a wide range of options. Engaging in such courses can significantly contribute to your academic growth.

Personally, I would suggest considering the computer and data science courses available on the platform. These courses are designed to equip you with practical skills that can boost your professional development.

Additionally, there are concise courses that guide you on how to effectively use tools like Microsoft Suite or Google Workspace. For instance, you can learn how to create a project charter in Google Docs. I believe these courses can be incredibly useful too!

Getting a certificate from Coursera can be worth it depending on your goals. Coursera offers a wide range of courses from reputable institutions, and the certificates can demonstrate your commitment to learning and acquiring new skills. They may be valuable on a college application, especially if they relate to your intended major or show your passion for a particular subject.

For job applications, Coursera certificates can be beneficial, especially if they are relevant to the job you're applying for. They can help you stand out and showcase your skills and dedication. However, it's essential to consider the specific job or college program you're interested in and whether they value Coursera certificates.

Ultimately, Coursera certificates can complement your education and career aspirations, but it's important to research the institutions or employers you're interested in to determine how they view such certificates in their selection processes.

Jennifer J’s Answer

I've actively participated in numerous career development programs and courses on Coursera, all aimed at enhancing my skills and expanding my knowledge in areas I'm passionate about. My employer views these as bonus qualifications, much like any educational institution or application would. I firmly believe that any extra learning is advantageous, no matter the topic. It provides a deeper understanding and a solid foundation for college courses too. So, keep learning and keep growing!

Hello, Amber !

Yes, a course taken at Coursera is worth it. It would look very good on a resume, too. Some fields of work do require that you get your State Certifications from various official organizations, but if you're asking about certificates in general, I would say that if you want to take an on line certificate, it could only be to your benefit. Make sure you know if it would be a Certificate of Attendance or Completion or if it would be an official State required Certification. Certificates of Completion or Attendance only mean you've taken a course in something. Certification means you can legally work in a profession that requires certification.

Christopher’s Answer

Hi Amber,

I agree with Michelle. A Coursera certificate is worth it. At the very least it shows initiative on you part. It will enhance your resume because it will show that you are willing to work hard to get ahead. It may also put you in a better position when competing for job or when applying to college. Admissions departments love to see the extra effort.

Good luck

Jacqueline’s Answer

Amber-

I think this is a great idea!

The key to success when beginning your career is demonstrating interest. People understand that you don't have experience yet, so when you apply for entry level jobs what they really want to see is that you have done something (anything) to show that you have taken steps to live out your interest.

I will also point out that many colleges has free courses you can take online, and Googlew has some certifications you can get for free as well.

Good luck- you are on the right track!
