Hi Johniyah: The practice of law is more than making money - it is doing something important for the entire community! I know a lot of lawyers - some have a lot of money, some do not. Become a lawyer if you care about the rule of law and doing the right thing. Supporting yourself and your family is very important. However, there are any number of jobs you can get that will help you support your family. Look into your own heart, follow your dreams and the road will lead you to the right choice in the end! Good luck!

Hi Johniyah,
Picking up a career is not (only) about making money - it's about doing something you're deeply passionate about and which is aligned with your values.
It's important & honorable to think about supporting yourself and your family however you might want to consider different career paths.
If Lawyer is the career you'd like to pursue then I'd encourage you to meet up with different lawyers to get their insight about the job.
Wishing you the best !

I applaud you for considering money when choosing a career; in my experience too many young people prioritize fun and easiness, which often leads to low-success, lower-paying careers. Family should come first in picking a profession.
I've been a lawyer for 54 years. It's always been difficult and takes long hours, but the pay put three children through six degrees of education taking 17 years with zero borrowing, leaving plenty for my wife and I to live on indefinitely.
Consider whether or not you like to read, speak and write (because these are essential to lawyering)

It's important to note that while some lawyers earn high incomes, the legal profession is diverse, and not all lawyers make substantial amounts of money. Additionally, the path to becoming a lawyer typically involves several years of education and often includes student loan debt, which can impact an attorney's financial situation.
The income of a lawyer depends on a combination of individual factors, including career choices, location, and personal circumstances. It's advisable for individuals considering a career in law to research the specific legal market and opportunities in their chosen area of practice to better understand potential earnings.
I work for a large law firm doing corporate litigation and it does pay well but it's a huge commitment and is very demanding. I also have friends working at smaller firms, such as a litigation boutique or an insurance defense firm who probably work less hours for slightly less pay. I also know people who work for the government doing criminal defense and public interest work - the way differs quite a bit.
I wish you the best of luck on your endeavors and do hope that you join the legal profession! But do make sure to consider all of your options and take into account your objectives before deciding to embark down this challenging but very rewarding path.
