How do I know which school will be best for my major?

Aside from sports, I want a school that will be best for academics as well

Thank you comment icon Hi! You can easily look up "top colleges and universities for [your intended major]" on the internet. It would be a great idea to visit each university's official website to gather more information about their academic programs and specifics. This will help you determine if they align with your interests and future goals. Katherine L

Alan’s Answer

Catelyn, yes, college should be, first and foremost, about academics. You don't say what you intend your major to be, or if you have made that decision as of yet. If you have, then visit the websites of the colleges you might have in mind and see what programs they offer that most closely match your career goals or seem to provide the richest foundation. If you have not yet made up your mind, which is fine, begin thinking about your interests, hobbies, experiences, skills and values, and try to narrow down your best possibilities from there. And one doesn't have to know what major they intend to pursue before entering college, as one of its purposes is to offer opportunities to explore different subjects and interests. Beyond all of that, meet with academic advisors from the colleges you might be considering, when they come to your school or on a visit to theirs. They can be very helpful in presenting what their college can offer you.

Fernando’s Answer

Finding the right college or university for you major boils down to research. Start with the ones in your area or close to your area. Get a look at the curriculum, financial aid, post graduate aid and life on campus. Don't be afraid to call the college and ask for a representative. They'll answer all your questions as well as schedule an interview if you're interested in applying. If you can't find a college near your area and moving to another state is too expensive always remember that there are online degrees.

Kasey’s Answer

Hello,

I would highly recommend get a guided tour of the college that you may be interested in. Ask all the questions. Try and figure out what exactly you want out of a college. If a good college with sports is your answer make sure they offer that particular sport. Do a little research as well before applying as well. Most schools are very open with the academic and sports within that college.

I wish you the very best.
