What are some ways you complete work especially in distractions?

What are some simple steps that helped you go along with work like what helped you to remember certain things important especially. I'm a sophomore in high-school I'm interested on what I should know when going out to any workforce/field. Another question just came to mind, what salaries does your job give? Is it complicated to work as a professional? I understand not everyone can be a professional but is it possible I could become a professional?

Marilia’s Answer

Dear Lisa,

I firmly believe that the key to a fulfilling career is finding a field and a company that resonates with your personal values. This has been my guiding principle throughout my professional journey, from the moment I completed my Engineering degree to now, with over 15 years of experience across various sectors and industries.

When it comes to salaries, you can easily find the starting salaries for all careers on the internet. However, these will vary greatly depending on the field, from engineering to medicine, for instance. My advice to you would be to focus on identifying the area you feel most drawn to. Consider whether you envision yourself working in an office, a hospital, or outdoors. Think about whether you thrive in routine tasks or prefer creative problem-solving, whether you enjoy collaboration or prefer to complete tasks independently. Answering these questions will help you pinpoint the areas that align best with your personality and abilities. Remember, salary should be a result of your career choice, not the driving factor behind it.

I wish you all the best in your career journey and in life!

Warm regards,

Martha’s Answer

Hi Lisa, you are asking excellent questions, and I agree with Marilia's advice. To reiterate/add:
- To me, being a professional means working hard and staying current in your career, taking responsibility for your outcomes, and interacting with others in a respectful and courteous manner. So yes, you could be a professional! Did you mean something else?
- Regarding salaries, I would add the size of company and geographic region as contributors to starting salaries. In my experience, smaller companies may have lower salaries, but more perks (such as free beverages or snacks) and a more entrepreneurial atmosphere. When looking at full-time jobs, also look at benefits, such as health insurance. Sometimes, you come out ahead if the benefits are really good, but the salary is a little lower.
- You also asked about distractions. If I am having trouble concentrating, I try to figure out why. If I am hungry or thirsty, I might get a snack or drink. Or I might take a quick walk outside and breathe in fresh air. If something specific is distracting me, I might try to get that done so I could refocus. Alternately, I might commit to doing a task for 15 minutes and then re-evaluate. Often, that is enough to refocus and I can continue.
Good luck!
