Hi Yaretzi,
In the field of law there are many things you can do to be mentally prepared. If you’re the investigator and the prosecution approved that you have a case, then you start your process of collection for the prosecution. After the investigator collected their evidence, they turn it over to the prosecution (lawyer/attorney) to review and assess. The prosecution will do their job to make or create an argument regarding that case. If your case is a high profile case, you have at least one year to study the case, gather more evidence, and research to defend your case. This is the minimum, and I am talking about criminal cases here. Sometimes, investigator may take a while to gather evidence and interview witnesses so it may take two years. Within these time frame, you as a prosecutor will have more cases on your desk, so you prioritize. Within this time frame you are strategizing your case and learning more about your victims and part of the defense.
So, it really depend what type of case you have. But the earlier you read your evidence and Investigative reports, the more you can write a strategy about your case.
I hope this helps.

You should always rehearse your arguments to the court and especially a jury, when at all possible.
Write down the points you want to make and keep these notes with you in court.

The prep work will take longer than the trial or hearing
