There's no easy way to answer this question because this industry has many sectors within it. Some sectors like residential, commercial, industrial and controls play a huge part in not only what your day to day life will be like but also your pay. Another thing that can greatly impact pay is location the difference of states and cities within states can be tens of thousands of dollars difference at the end of the year. An experienced HVAC tech can make from as little as 50k a year to over 150k a year based on the above factors and their own abilities.
The day to day life is also hugely impacted by the sector of the industry and the individual company you work for. Companies have their own way of doing things. Some have you at their shop daily starting and stopping your day there, some have their techs come to the shop occasionally alternating between starting your day from home or the shop and some places will never have you at the shop and you start from your home with a company vehicle every day.
The sector and company also plays into where you work and the type of work you do. Residential could be houses in your companies service area doing repairs and replacements. Commercial can be retail stores, office buildings and restaurants. Industrial can be factories, stadiums and large commercial buildings. Controls can be all of the above just monitoring and controlling all the systems within the building. There's also many things I've skipped over like refrigeration, supermarket refrigeration, hot side kitchen repairs and smaller appliances that some companies work on that fall into the HVAC world.
