Hello Sarah,
If your heart beats for animals, you'll likely find a career as a vet incredibly rewarding. However, it's important to remember that you'll need to hit the books and earn a veterinarian degree before you can dive into this flourishing field. The pet care industry has seen a significant surge since the pandemic, as more people found the time and space to welcome pets into their homes. Pets provide a wonderful source of companionship, and this has led to an increase in pet ownership. With this in mind, it's worth noting that there's potential for financial success in this sector. In fact, Bloomberg projects the pet industry to skyrocket to a whopping 500 billion dollar market by 2030.

Hi, Sarah! Being a veterinarian is a very rewarding career! Yes, I’m afraid you do have to have quite a bit of additional schooling. You will need four years of college and additional four years of veterinary school before you can start to be a veterinarian. However, veterinarians are generally pretty well compensated. This depends a great deal on your specialty, and also on where you work. Right now, most graduating vet students can expect a salary of approximately $100,000 per year. Established veterinarians or veterinarians who specialize in things like surgery or even laboratory Animal Medicine can expect much higher salaries. A really great reference for looking up salaries is www.bls.gov.
The bureau of labor statistics will break salaries down by job and also by location. You can look up what veterinary salaries are in your own home state.
