How do I decide what classes to take to help me in the field of sports medicine? Will taking classes about physical therapy or athletic training help me?
I would like to know what classes will help me become a physical therapist.

AT and PT are very different. Since you asked about PT, PT is a 3 year program beyond the undergraduate level. Most schools that have PT programs have a 3+3 program meaning that they have the undergrad and doctorate level courses mapped out for you. Contact your local schools with a PT program.
Thank you for the information!

Both PT and becoming an ATC can lead you to sports medicine work but they are very different educational paths. To become a PT, you will need to complete an undergrad degree, usually taking 4 years. Then you can apply to PT schools that will then be an additional 2.5-3 years finishing with a Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) degree. A DPT is the "entry-level" degree needed to practice physical therapy. Some schools that have DPT programs have "bridge" programs for those who get undergrad degrees at the same school that may decrease the time by a semester or two but often a student has to pre-qualify for those programs and adhere to GPA requirements to keep that pre-qualification. To learn more about PT, go to the American PT Association website (apta.org)
There are both undergrad and masters degrees that can help you in your qualifications to gain an AT certification.
Either of these paths will have educational requirements that are heavy on basic science, anatomy and movement sciences. Good luck!
