Hey Sophie!

You've asked a fantastic question, especially since becoming a psychologist is quite a journey. In simple terms, psychologists are like doctors. After finishing high school, they spend 4 years in college to get an undergraduate degree, and then another 4 years to earn a Doctorate in Psychology.

But here's where it gets interesting. A psychologist with a Ph.D. is usually more into academic stuff, like doing research. On the other hand, a psychologist with a Psy. D. degree is more hands-on and spends more time seeing patients.

Now, if your heart is set on counseling and therapy, there are different routes you can take. You might think about social work or therapy. Depending on the route you choose, some of these careers require a Master's degree, which is typically 2 years after college. If you're into sports, you can achieve a Master's degree in sports psychology. But remember, usually only those with doctorates are officially called psychologists.
