Hi Keribel,

Firstly - I love how you have articulated all the things that you care about and love to do. Great start!

Here's an exercise that I recommend to my friends and clients who are trying to figure out their career options:
1) Fold a piece of paper (A4 size) right down the middle.
2) On the left-hand side of that fold, list the things that you mentioned above.
3) On the right side of that fold, a make a list of things of all that you are good at. Like really good at! Maybe it's singing, drawing, speaking or presenting to large audiences.
4) And see how this list matches up to what you like to do - connect them with lines. Items on the right may connect with more than one item on the left.

Hope that makes sense.

This exercise helps you to find that right mix of passion and strengths to highlight potential industries or career options for you.

Let me know if you've further questions.

Cheers
Jenny

Todd’s Answer

At this point it is great you are thinking so far ahead, so congratulations. Things to think about Keribel, are if the things you enjoy would still be enjoyable if you HAD to do them, or only if you could do them at a more leisurely pace at your choosing. The latter things are probably kept as a hobby, while the former could be good career choices.

Todd recommends the following next steps:

You mentioned math, orchestra, painting, and animals as things you are currently involved with. Look around and find people who have careers (paying jobs) in these fields. Engineers use a lot of math, for instance, & some large cities have orchestras. Look up different careers, and see what they involve. Ask your parents or a teacher to take you to the orchestra, and inquire ahead of time about meeting the conductor or a musician afterwards to ask questions. Have several good ones prepared. Seeing what is really involved, and talking to the people in different careers will help you decide. Good luck and dont give up!
