When I think back of when she was in school, she was never a good test taker and always struggled when it came time to take the exam. We were able to get her some additional tutoring and it was evident that she was just very anxious about testing. However, in the end, understanding her weakness and working to come up with strategies to overcome the challenge, now makes her an even better educator as she can more easily emphasize with her students who face similar challenges.
In my opinion, this profession also requires you to able to quickly adapt and be creative as the text book lesson plan on paper may not be beneficial to all learners each school year. You need to be able to quickly adjust, as needed, for the group of children you are working with.
Teachers face so many different challenges today but it can be such a rewarding career! As a teacher, you have the opportunity to inspire and encourage the next generation. Wishing you all the best as you explore this profession closer. By the way, I also have a niece that teaches in Charlotte, NC and she LOVES her job!

Qualifications include things like passing praxis tests or getting a state license. If you enroll in a teacher preparation program the school helps you with all necessary steps. What you need to think about is skills. Being super organized is very important. Generally being open to what might happen is a skill. If you think about teaching first grade students you have to be a caregiver. What happens a lot for first year teachers is a 4th or 5th grade assignment. These are young people who are going through growing pains and teaching this age group is challenging. Pick the age group you feel matches your values and personality type. Over time you will get the age group you want but many teachers quit before this happens.
