The length and cost of college depends on the school you attend. One formula is to obtain an Associate of Arts (A.A.) degree from a community college, where the tuitions are low. Then move to a 4-year university to complete your B.A. or B.S. degree.

At the community college you can complete some of the general courses that are required for the B.A. or B.S. degree. Some community college offer courses that can be taken remotely. Some states guarantee admission to a state university upon completion of an A.A. degree at a community college within the state. State colleges usually have the lowest tuition.

I am guessing that a college degree interrupted by your traveling nurse responsibilities would take 5 to 6 years. Perhaps, two to three years of community college classes, some done remotely, and 3 years of university classes.

This may seem like a long time, but once you begin, time will fly as you focus on your studies, and hopefully enjoy some of your classes.

Hello, Ava !

After college, you will need some licensing and will need to begin working as a nurse as soon as possible. I wanted to add this to the wonderful advice you have already received because in order to register at a Travel Nurse agency, you will need at least five years active experience working as a nurse. Once you have the background, you can sign up with different Travel Nurse agencies. They can send you to work around the corner or as far away as a different continent, so Travel Nursing is for where there is a need. Some agencies provide housing accommodations and some don't. That is something you will find out once you are with the specific agencies.

Yes, college is expensive and seems to get increasingly so. All students do find a way to finance their education, though, and it's more important that you follow your dream career than worry about financing right now. There is a financial aid office at every college and they are authorized to provide you with all the information you will need once you apply to college. For insight, you can always read information at the websites FinAid, Student Aid, and the U.S. Government Financial Aid website. I have left links to those below. Keep in mind that this information does change so you may want to revisit those websites once you are ready to apply for financial aid and are enrolling in college.

Best wishes !

Travel nursing jobs usually need a BSN degree, but don't worry if you're starting with an ADN. It's a two-year program, shorter than the four-year BSN. Plus, there's good news! Lots of BSN programs have RN-to-BSN bridge programs, making it easier for you to upgrade your qualifications.
