What specific careers can someone who majors in International Studies and Global Relations look forward to after they graduate?
After graduating what jobs will be open for people who major in this degree? Will the jobs be limited towards one specific field? Can one use it towards becoming an FBI agent?

Hey Gabriela! The answer to your question has a lot of layers but I will try to answer as best I can. The degree in general is not limited. You can work in non-profit, private sector, public sector, transnational businesses, and/or the federal or local government. Where you get your degree creates the type of learning you receive. Is the program focused more on international affairs? Is there sub program or classes that are focused on security? If you are truly gearing to becoming a FBI agent then taking classes or even having a certificate in security studies can help. Keep in mind that becoming a FBI agent from what I know they test your physical strength and eye sight and train you how to use a weapon. There are also special agents that specializes in for example foreign language that work for the FBI. Those people usually have a higher education to prove that they are capable. I understand this information is quite hefty but if you have a true desire to become a FBI agent with your degree, there are steps that you need to take and consider. Just know that your degree is certainly not limited and I suggest you keep exploring while you pursue your degree. You may just find something better than you were looking for. Good luck! international-studies

You can go into any field with an International Relations degree. I have had peers enter careers in Intelligence, at the FBI, government agencies, the Department of State, finance, consulting, non-profits, teaching, medicine, law, you name it! The key thing that agencies look for is why you want to work there, whether you can learn quickly, whether you have taken a leadership role in college, and whether your skills align with the job. For an International Affairs major trying to work at the FBI, you could potentially pursue Intelligence Analyst positions for example.

International Studies is a wonderfully diverse and encompassing field of study. It definitely opens up the possibility for you to advance towards a career in the FBI. Yet, you might also consider majoring in Criminology as another viable path towards the same goal. Remember, no matter which major you opt for, the key is to hone those skills that are highly prized for the job. This way, you're not just preparing for a career, but also enhancing your potential for success.

Hello Gabriela!
International Studies is a wonderful field that can open you a door of diverse and intriguing opportunities. Depending on your concentration and passions, there are many ways you can apply your degree. Many International Studies students end up continuing their academic career going into law school and becoming an International lawyer. Others dedicate their expertise by working with non-profits all around the world. Some might even go into the corporate world (like I did) to influence corporations on how to incorporate international laws and costumes within their processes. For example, going into Diversity and Inclusion teams might be a great option to look into.
