What high school courses would I need to take in order to take a major in architecture?
I am in tenth grade, and I just want to know if there's any specific classes I should take.

Hello Sandy! Great question. I recommend taking art/drawing classes, STEM classes (math, science, engineering), critical thinking, and even computer-aided design and shop classes (woodworking), if offered. I majored in graphic design in college. Architecture is design plus math and science, and it is problem-solving, too. If you can take AP or college credit classes for general education (english, math) while in school, that will help you get a head start. I hope my answer is helpful to you. Good luck!

Hi Sandy, it is great that you are thinking about type of high school classes to take that will help you in majoring in Architecture. I would recommend taking drawing/sketching classes, also computer-aided design class if offered in high school. Architecture is a very creative field which also includes problem-solving. So, a good understanding of math, mechanics, physics in high school will help as it will help when you will design a building that will be structurally stable, function well and at the same time will look awesome. Architecture is a mix of art, science and technology. Hope this helps, and wish you the best of luck in your journey!
Thanks for the advice.

I would agree with all those suggestions Deborah! I would especially focus on art related classes if the school you are attending has a Bachelor of Arts of Architecture. This will help you to get a head start.
Speaking from personal experience, I wasn't sure what I wanted to study when I went to college and I ended up with Interior Design. I had not taken any classes aside from art electives in high school and I was still able to graduate on time. So, don't get too hung up on selecting the right classes in high school, that is what college is for!
