How do I succeed as a student athlete?

I am in 8th Grade and want to become an athlete but i am worried about how I am able to be an athlete and succeed in academics in high school and college.

That is amazing that you want to be a student athlete and want to make sure you succeed in school. As a student athlete growing up myself and my son who is an 8th grader student athlete, I think being focused and disciplined are key drivers to succeed. I think being a student athlete actually helped me getting better grades growing up because I had to make sure I had good grades or the school wouldn't let me play. As soon as I got home from school, I would study or do homework. Then, I would have dinner and go to practice. It was a routine and I loved it. It kept me out of trouble and the friends that I met along the way are unbreakable. Also, our team had study tables after school some times in the cafeteria. You can ask the team if they would like to do that. Keep on pursuing your dream and don't give up!

This question is near and dear to me so I will start with saying that you should first focus on your academics. As it may seem like you should focus on your practice and your dedication to your sport that should just come more naturally than you would think. Find the best ways that work for you in order to study properly and get the best grades that you can. As you get into high school you will learn more about studying habits and by this time you will still be getting better and stronger within your sport of choice. In order to get the best opportunities available for you to be a student athlete your grades will be taken into consideration so you want to do the best that you can. Once you get into college you will get better and better about time management and before you know it, doing both will come natural. You will never realize that there was a time that you had to learn to balance. I was a student athlete and I did take the advise that I am giving you that was given to me when I was your age.
