To add to the excellent answers provided above, I'll give a practical example from my industry.
In the game industry, business development individuals are in high demand, but the supply of talent is actually quite limited! Many individuals joining the game industry come from a variety of 'hard skill' backgrounds required to develop games -- engineering, design, art, audio, and so forth.
However, to create a sustainable game development studio, games created also need to be funded, sold and continue to sell long term, to keep the bills paid & enable the team to work on their next project -- e.g. a DLC, sequel or completely different game.
Our world, industry, teams and we are ever changing, and though innovation in technology certainly pushes folks in hard skill disciplines to keep learning & growing, it remains fairly specialised within their discipline. The role & responsibilities of an individual with a business hat, as described above, requires business acumen, a range of soft skills, and infinite, ceaseless adaptability -- the market can (and will) change every few months if not more often.
In addition to that, the macro-economic effect of other industries outside the game industry having similar needs for business professionals means that these other industries (IT, Fintech, Medtech) often pay more -- so it requires a special passion to dedicate yourself to the game industry as a business professional!
