I would look up the foundation website, of the college that you wish to attend, and see what kinds of scholarships they have, and ones that you qualify to apply for.

I would also look at local community and art centers in your region. Benefactors, who support the arts and these local art communities, sometimes sponsor student scholarships.

If you are in high school, there are a lot of search terms you can use to find lesser known/applied for scholarships such as ones offered by the American Legion, American Legion Auxiliary, Rotary Club scholarships, and others specifically related to art competitions or theory. You can also volunteer with a local, regional, or national organization related to art which may increase your chances to both gain experience in the field and to gather more information on potential scholarship opportunities. There are a lot more opportunities during the summer as well when kids are out of school.

If you are in college or graduate school or entering one of those soon, contact the art college/programs at your university and others to inquire. Sometimes their website will have information about the scholarships too. Additionally, there are some art and creative opportunities you can experience by joining clubs and professional organizations related to art and the creative fields. Manytimes there is a discounted or free rate for students.

Hello Malory,
Finding the right art scholarship for you can open up exciting creative opportunities. Here's a step-by-step guide to help you in your search:

Define Your Focus: Determine your specific area of interest within the field of art. Whether it's painting, sculpture, digital art, photography, or another medium, having a clear focus will help you narrow down scholarship options.

Research Online Platforms: Explore dedicated scholarship search engines and platforms that cater specifically to the arts. Websites like Fastweb, Cappex, and College Board Scholarship Search allow you to filter scholarships based on your major or field of study.

Check College Websites: Visit the websites of the art schools or colleges you're interested in attending. Many institutions offer scholarships for students majoring in art, and these may be listed on their financial aid or scholarship pages.

Art Associations and Foundations: Investigate art associations and foundations that support emerging artists. Organizations like the National Endowment for the Arts, the Alliance for Young Artists & Writers, or local art councils often provide scholarship opportunities.

Community and Local Opportunities: Look for scholarships offered by local businesses, community organizations, or art galleries. These smaller, community-based awards may have less competition and can contribute to your overall financial support.

Attend Art Events: Participate in art exhibitions, festivals, or events where you can network with professionals in the art community. These connections may lead to information about scholarship opportunities.

Check with High School Counselors: If you're still in high school, consult with your school's counselors. They may have information about regional or national art scholarships, and can guide you on the application process.

Art Competitions and Contests: Enter art competitions and contests that offer scholarships as prizes. Winning or placing in these competitions not only provides financial support but also boosts your artistic portfolio.

Explore Specific Mediums: If you have a specialization within art (e.g., graphic design, illustration), look for scholarships that specifically target that medium. Some organizations prefer to support artists with expertise in certain areas.

Create an Art Portfolio: Many art scholarships require a portfolio submission. Develop a strong and diverse portfolio that showcases your talent, creativity, and unique artistic voice. Ensure it aligns with the specific requirements of the scholarships you're interested in.

Remember to carefully review the eligibility criteria and application requirements for each scholarship. Tailor your applications to highlight your strengths and align with the values of the scholarship providers. With diligence and a well-crafted portfolio, you'll increase your chances of finding the right art scholarship to support your creative journey. Good luck!
