Hey! My biggest advice is to start with working in a daycare or as a paraprofessional in an early childhood classroom! What I did was I worked in these settings while I was in college. Most of the time you can work in a daycare without a degree! I was an assistant director and when I did interviews I looked at people who had a passion and an understanding of educating small children. I hired people more on their experience and passion than I did based on their degree!
If you have never worked in a childcare setting before you would not be able to start off as the lead teacher in a daycare though. If you were hired you would be an assistant or floater until you worked there for about 6 months (the time frame may differ from state to state). Once that period is up you can become a lead teacher! In a private or public school, you can apply to be a paraprofessional aka an assistant! Again, it may depend on the state but you do not need a degree to be a paraprofessional. Where I am from you need to have a certain number of college courses or pass an assessment.
If you want to become a teacher in a school setting you will need a bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education from an accredited college! If you want to stay in the daycare/childcare setting you could obtain your Associate's degree from a technical school or university.
I would recommend you find a part-time or full-time job in the education or childcare field (like the ones I listed above) and take the courses. It can be challenging at times but it helps you out a lot when you go to apply for a teaching job because you will come in with a degree and experience! I did online school and it was great! You can find schools that let you obtain the whole degree with certification online!
Look for jobs in your area in the Early Childhood field
Apply for the positions you feel like would help you advance in your knowledge in the area
Find out if you want to work in a childcare setting or a school
Look into colleges that you can obtain an Early Childhood (Bachelors or associates)
Find a mentor! Obtaining a mentor can help you become the best educator possible!
