Is double majoring a good idea?

I got a $12,000 scholarship to go to an out of state college for Business administration but I want to go to school for Culinary arts as well. Is it a good idea to double major or do I take it one at a time? #culinary #business #college-major #double-major #academic-advising

Yes! College is a great time to get exposed to many things. Having more than one major will broaden your horizon and give you a better perspective. Combining liberal arts with a STEM degree will improve your reasoning skills as well as your communication.

If you are able to double major in college it can definitely open up greater opportunities for you after graduation. Having a business degree on top of any other degree can provide valuable skills that can be utilized in any industry plus give you an opportunity to enter into a more entrepreneurial role in the future if you wish. It won’t be easy to double major, lots of hard work but there will be benefits.

Shari recommends the following next steps:

Understand what your school requires to succeed with a double major and understand the commitment.

Hi Tayler, double majoring is a great idea for two reasons. First, it will make your college experience richer and more interesting. Second, when you put the double major description on your resume, you will impress employers by showing that you not only worked hard in college, but you also accumulated knowledge in different fields. You can choose fields that complement each other and will make you a more competitive job candidate. However, you can also choose two completely different fields and look for internships in both to build a strong career experience. One of my friends majored in art and environmental studies and became a college professor who teaches both! You can also major in a language and another field and look for opportunities to work abroad using the language you learned.

Hey Tayler! Congrats on the scholarship! If you can find a school that offers both majors, then I think it would a great idea to double major if business and the culinary arts are your primary interests. Double majoring does typically take extra approval and time to plan. You need to make sure you can satisfy the requirements for both majors and any other courses you need to take for graduation by your graduation date. Good luck!
