Hello, Leah !

Since your tag indicates that you already have an interest in computer related work, you are a step ahead for a career that would suit your storytelling and presentational talents !

My first suggestion would be to develop your own talk show for a channel on You Tube. You will need good video recording equipment, sound equipment and editing software and other like-minded talent to collaborate with you on your own show. You can do this now or at any time. I very often do see employment notices on the website Indeed for content creators for different platforms. You can register at Indeed or Linked In and set notifications for content creators or video show hosts or actors. I actually acted in a commercial remotely in 2020 all done via my phone video camera and the agency was 3,000 miles away. It can be done.

At the same time, I would highly suggest that you enroll in college and obtain at least a Bachelors Degree in either Communications or Acting. You should take writing courses, too, such as writing for film and television. The degree will open up opportunities for outside work as well as provide professional contacts that will be quite valuable for you. Learn the ropes and you will qualify for many different positions and progress in your independently developed projects that you create yourself.

You happen to live in the heart of much opportunity for this kind of work. I would suggest that you decide whether or not you want to go to a community college first and transfer to a four year university, or go straight to a four year college. All the good schools for this surround you. Columbia and NYU are tops, but any SUNY would be good, too. It's very important that you study in New York or Los Angeles. You will encounter many rewarding benefits and more people to interact and work with.

I give this advice to you because this is exactly what I would have done if the internet was around when I went to college and than pursued my acting career. You have wider opportunities today and many options being someone planning for your career.

I have left some links for you below about colleges and schools and I hope this helps a bit. I wish you all the best in this wonderful career choice ! Never give up !

Rebecca’s Answer

Thank you for your question. Have you thought about of doing a fashion journalist, fashion commentary, youtuber, author, journalist, designer, etc.? There are many careers that are related trendy items or story telling.
Below are my suggestions :
1. Think about more related careers that you have interest. You can do more research online to explore the related careers.
2. Find out more on these careers and determine what you have interest
3. Speak to someone who are working in these careers. Seek guidance from your parents, school career counsellor, your parents, etc.
4. Shortlist 1-2 career you would like to pursue
5. Explore the entry criteria of relevant courses in the college
Hope this helps! Good Luck!
