Is a Graveyard shift during high school a good idea?

I got offered a job with a late night shift but I don't know if it's a good idea working so late and going to school at the same time. Will the job experience be worth it or will that kind of schedule do more harm then good? #part-time #highschool #work-life-balance

Thank you comment icon Hi Alan, great question. While this job offer may sound tempting, I would not recommend it. My friends who work graveyard shifts completely regret doing so. The lack of sleep can really negatively affect your concentration in school and the added stress is unnecessary. They almost never have time to do homework or study and their grades are reflections of that. If experience is what you're looking for, try finding another job that will be more flexible with your already existing job of being a student. I hope this helps and I wish you the best! Mireia

No. That is not a good idea. Your school and work performance will both suffer, in addition to any health problems that you will incur. Better to work a part-time job as time allows in the several hours right after school and/or weekends -- while still retaining time for school, studies, and your social life.

i would not recommend it. Focus on your studies and try to find some income over the weekends and during the day. Graveyard shifts are not easy shifts

This is a great question. I don't think it's a good idea because your growing body needs as much rest as you can get! Nationwide Children's Hospital says that teenagers need at least 9 hours of sleep. Not to forget that you also need study time as well as time with friends.
