Hello, Naman !
It's great that you are reaching out for advice for this important study. Getting information about things for school or work can often times be confusing and lots of reading involved, so I am glad to give you some advice.
I would advise to definitely prepare for the qualifier exam that you've mentioned. That will help you prepare well and put you at ease when you do take the exam. Give that your priority for now but consider the JEE for later on if you'd like because you never know if you'll decide to go to a different college that would require it. Your best bet is to focus on the qualifying exam for the school you want to go to.
Try to approach all of it slowly, step by step as to not overwhelm yourself. Pace your information research for school and take some breaks to do something fun and do relaxing activities, too ! You can also take a leisurely visit to the college if you don't live too far and also attend an orientation/tour of the school. During a tour of the school, you can get to know the campus and ask any questions while you are there. I have left a link for you below for their orientation program which looks like it is via video and live stream, but it is not current . You can check back there for the year you will be entering. In the meantime, my advice about visiting in person still stands as it will give you a feel for the campus and will be quite exciting to experience it in person.
Keep participating in groups at your school that you have an interest in and be involved in your community if there is an opportunity for you to do so. You are on the right track, so please do not worry. I think everything will fall into place for you for a wonderful college experience.
I wish you all the best !

But I think that first I should prepare for jee in class xi and xii and if it not get clear then I will try for qualifier exam because qualifier can only be given after passing 12th so my 11th and 12th will just get waste by not preparing for jee or doing anything. pls reply on this

Naman, I want to first thank you for reaching out and asking your questions regarding seeking to be a data scientist. Naman your ambition to become a data scientist is commendable. I hope the information that I have below provides you some insight and/or help.
To embark on the journey of becoming a data scientist, you need to grasp that it's a blend of academic credentials, tangible skills, and hands-on experience. IIT Madras holds high prestige, but the choice between taking the qualifier exam and preparing for the JEE should be in line with your career objectives.
In my opinion, if the qualifier exam is a more targeted and concentrated step towards your career dreams, it might be an appropriate choice. Yet, it's also vital to contemplate other possible paths. Data science typically demands a robust foundation in mathematics, statistics, and programming. I recommend examining the curriculum and opportunities offered by both paths, and decide which one resonates more with your interests and ambitions.
Furthermore, Naman, it's equally crucial to gain practical experience via internships, personal projects, and networking with professionals in the field. I urge you to thoroughly investigate all your options, seek guidance from mentors or professionals in the data science sector, and make a decision that not only aligns with your academic objectives but also bolsters your wider career goals.
Finally, I believe it's critical to select a path that not only paves the way for academic achievement but also cultivates the practical skills necessary for a thriving career in data science.

Hi Naman,
I think the advice here to prepare for each exam, one at a time, is sound. And it sounds like preparing for the JEE first is best since the qualifier exam cannot be taken yet. This would all be to accomplish the goal to be admitted to an educational program, which is great.
As a data scientist myself, I can speak to the kinds of knowledge you want to seek to give you a good background in the field. I started with a background in mathematics and statistics, and took all available math courses available to me in high school. Calculus was especially helpful. At the same time, I have had an interest in computer programming and took several courses in both high school and college to learn this skill. A data scientist needs both of these skills to employ the most popular algorithms because we need to understand the mathematics that differentiate one algorithm from another. At the same time we clean, manipulate, and prepare data using languages like python and R and use these same languages to run the machine learning functions and models.
In my opinion, these are the things to seek out to build a good foundation. Once you feel comfortable, you can look out for a real life project where you can try out these skills. This has been the best way for me to learn. For example, I learned R first and found that converting my R code to python was the best way to learn python. Data visualization projects are also a great place to start and visualization is an important way to communicate your findings.
There are an infinite number of things to read and learn, but if you take your education one day at a time you will have plenty of time to learn what you need.
Have fun!

Hi Naman,
I think the iitMadras program looks pretty good. So, I would say, go for it.
I would also recommend that you get on LinkedIn and search for people who work as data scientists in India. Check out where they work and how they got there, i.e. what education and career path they had. Make some connections and ask questions. You can message on the platform, and if someone is happy to assist, ask for an informational interview.
Good luck!
