Michelle’s Answer

Hello, Linda !

I would say, for business management advice, you've come to the right place - Career Village. There are many professionals here who are advisors for all types of college and career related information and discussion. It's free. Just ask your specific question with a bit of detail so the advisors can specifically and accurately guide you.

I would also suggest that you visit a small or medium sized business in your neighborhood and ask to speak to the owner. If the owner is available and receptive, introduce yourself and ask advice from the owner of a business.

Another place where you might find a business advisor would be at your local City Hall for which I have left the link to their website below. If you have a local Chamber of Commerce, the staff there will be helpful to you, too.

Keep in mind that professional Business Advisors charge for their services, so you will want to explore how you can do this without spending money since you are presently a student. Another way to do this for free is if you are in high school, contact the teachers that teach Business and ask for a meeting with one of them to discuss any questions you have. If you are in college, go to the Business Department and ask to speak with a professor.

I hope this is helpful, but remember that you must take active steps and communicate your needs. It will take active steps to obtain the information and understand what you need to do to start a business. Best wishes !

Amalya’s Answer

Hi Linda,

To get advice for business management, you can try various options. One of them is to take online/off-line courses in that subject. The theoretical knowledge will help you gain the necessary skills and be your own adviser!
Besides that, you can read relevant books/papers to get additional knowledge.
If you still need help from a professional business adviser, you can find one on various platforms via advising services.
All the best.

Hi Linda, check if you local library or city hall has any resources for advisors. It really depends on the kind of advice you're looking for - whether about education options, career opportunities, etc. The best way is to find a mentor to help you streamline your thoughts - asking the right questions is the first step to finding the best answers!

Myles’s Answer

Hi Linda,

If you are seeking free advice on business management, my recommendation is to consider finding relevant business owners, entrepreneurs, etc. who have presented TED Talks, LinkedIn Learning, and business management experts which host regular podcasts. As also suggested, if you have access to public or school libraries, they can be a treasure trove of educational content in business management. If you are seeking paid advice, consider networking and reaching out to business management professionals open to paid consulting to pursue opportunities to interview for real world advice and examples.

Good luck and all the best!

Hello,

Finding a reliable advisor for business management is a crucial step toward gaining valuable insights and tips. Here are some avenues to explore:

1. Business Mentorship Programs: Many organizations and business networks offer mentorship programs. Seek out these programs to connect with experienced professionals in the field who can provide guidance on business management.

2. Industry Associations: Joining industry-specific associations often opens doors to mentorship opportunities. These organizations may have mentorship programs or connect you with experienced individuals willing to share their insights.

3. Networking Events: Attend business and networking events in your area. These gatherings provide opportunities to meet seasoned professionals who may offer advice and guidance based on their experiences in business management.

4. Online Platforms: Explore online platforms dedicated to business professionals, such as LinkedIn. Many experienced business leaders are open to sharing their knowledge and offering advice to those seeking guidance in business management.

5. Local Business Support Centers: Check with local business support centers, chambers of commerce, or small business development centers. They often provide resources and may connect you with experienced advisors in business management.

Remember to approach potential advisors with a clear understanding of your goals and questions to make the most of their guidance.

Best wishes on your journey in business management!

Warm regards,
Houcine

Debra’s Answer

Small Business Development Centers (SBDC) provide counseling and training to small businesses including working with the Small Business Administration (SBA) to develop and provide informational tools to support business start-ups and existing business expansion. SBDCs are often located at community colleges and are great places to get advice!
