Hey Donovan,

I'm glad you are preparing yourself for college, you've already answered part of the question yourself! Asking questions and always wanting to know more is one of the most important skills you can have in college. If you add in hard work and persistence, you'll do very well.

Best wishes,

Kellan

Hey Donovan,

I would agree with Kellan that asking the question and being aware of having that goal is the first step. Hard work and persistence in your studies is important but also remember that when in school, grades are important but school life is also a great opportunity to build friendships that will last you a lifetime. Do surround yourself with friends who have the same values as you so that you can all support each other through this very exciting journey. Be involved in school/club activities, stay out of of doing anything illegal and remember that this is a time of learning, so continue to seek out learning opportunities that are beyond the classroom, like internships, assistant openings on campus, volunteering, clubs, etc.

I hope you have a great college experience and hopefully you will find yourself writing an answer based on your experience here to encourage another student years from now.

Hi Donovan P. I see that you posted this question a little while ago so I hope my answer to you (or others who may read this response) is still helpful.

I think that graduating from college takes a few things. At the top of the list I think that is some goal setting, focus and the motivation that is gained by seeing the goodness of what is "on the other side" of getting that degree. Goal setting can start small..learning the campus, learning your professor's office hours, finding out how to score books on the cheap :)...but your goals should grow...finding good study partners, finding good study places...working out a routine for studying...mastering a subject in math or english lit (or whatever course you are taking), taking an elective and mastering that too.

Generally speaking, focus is required to meet or exceed your goals. Getting your focus can also start small. It can be hard at first because with the awesomeness of college comes many distractions. Finally the motivation. I can't tell you the amount of times I would sit with my calculus book open and remind myself that if I do the best I can, I will finish this class and I can move on to finishing my degree....then begin to build my career. Most college student don't have much money and thus are limited in what they can do...but the motivation of what type of salary a degree can bring was one of my biggest motivators.

Hope you find this answer helpful. Best of luck to you!
