Andrew , I want to first thank you for reaching out and asking your questions regarding an interest in making money on the internet. Andrew in today's digital age, there are numerous opportunities for individuals to generate income online. I hope the information that I have below provides you some insight and/or help.

Firstly, it's crucial to pinpoint your interests and skills. This step is absolutely vital. Whether your passion lies in content creation, social media management, e-commerce, or affiliate marketing, aligning your chosen niche with what you love will make the learning journey more enjoyable and boost your chances of success. To kickstart your online entrepreneurship, think about building a robust online presence. Develop a personal brand on platforms like LinkedIn or through a personal website, where you can highlight your skills, experiences, and accomplishments. This will not only act as a digital portfolio but also as a stage to share your insights and forge connections within the industry.

Next, consider immersing yourself in digital marketing strategies and tools. Numerous online courses, webinars, and resources are available to help you gain the essential knowledge and skills. It's imperative to stay abreast of the latest trends and best practices in the fast-paced world of online marketing. Social media platforms are a vital component of online marketing. By establishing and maintaining a presence on platforms such as Instagram, Twitter, and LinkedIn, you can engage with your target audience. My youngest son, an active user of YouTube and Instagram, insists that consistent, engaging content can draw in followers and potential customers.

You might also want to explore freelancing opportunities on platforms like Upwork or Fiverr. These platforms enable you to offer your services to a global audience, creating an opportunity to display your skills and build a portfolio. As you accumulate experience and positive reviews, you can gradually raise your rates and attract higher-paying clients.

If e-commerce interests you, platforms like Shopify and Etsy offer user-friendly interfaces for setting up online stores. You can start small, selling handmade products or exploring dropshipping, and gradually grow your business as you gain more experience.

Given your interest in increasing your income for investment purposes, it's vital to start with a realistic budget. Set aside funds for essential tools, courses, and advertising. As you start earning, reinvest a portion back into your business for further growth. A good starting point might be to reinvest about 20% – 30% of your earnings. As you gain a better understanding of the market, diversify your investments.

Lastly, Andrew, always remember that achieving success in the online business world requires time and effort. Remain persistent, adapt to changes, and constantly strive to enhance your skills. Networking with other professionals in your field can offer invaluable insights and opportunities. I hope these tips assist you on your path to becoming a successful internet entrepreneur.

Faith’s Answer

Hello Andrew,

It all depends on the path you're willing to take. You can take a traditional path and go to school for Business Administration with a specialization/focus on Marketing. It's been over a decade since I've been in business school, but I'm sure nowadays there are courses that have a direct focus on social media marketing.

If you're not wanting to attend a 4 year university, there are junior colleges and trade schools as well as online schools that offer programs in marketing. The other possible path is becoming an influential figure on the internet. There are several figures who have created programs that you can enroll in (mentoring programs or programs for purchase that provide live or written content). You have to be careful and do your research to ensure you're purchasing content from qualified individuals, avoiding scams.

You can also study entrepreneurs who have made the majority of their money creating/running internet business. I know this sounds very cliche, but even figures like Kim Kardashian have been invited to ivy-league schools to provide students with insight as to how they built billion-dollar online businesses through internet and social media marketing.

You can subscribe to different financial magazines and take note of television broadcasts that feature influential figures within the world of finance (i.e. CNBC, CNN, etc.). Research is key in figuring out what's been successful, but also what hasn't been done.

In terms of investing money, balance your finances and invest smartly and with a sound mind. Don't over invest or become too eager or spend all of your additional income on investing as investments are unpredictable. Allocate a balanced portion of your income to investing and be patient as you attempt to grow your investments. There are several financial figures who have varying opinions on how much to invest, where to invest it, and how often you should invest. Research different perspectives through varying financial publications and find the method that best fits your personality and your financial situation.

Also, find your niche. Figure out what will make your marketing skills unique. As you mentioned, it's hard to become a pro marketer when everything in today's society is digital and almost anyone can enter the industry you're looking to explore. The difference is those who set themselves apart by utilizing their skills in a way that increases consumer demand for their specific talents.

Becoming successful may seem complicated and intimidating, but if you look at the most successful individuals in the world, they all started somewhere that allowed their skills and talents or their products to be easily accessible and it solved a very simple problem. Kim Kardashian entered a market with her online company SKIMS that had long been around before she started her company. However, her notiariety mixed with her willingness to utilize womens' feedback on what wasn't working for the existing products in the market, in addition to marketing a product for women of all sizes, allowed her to dominate an industry that features large and extremely competitive corporations. In addition, her relationships with several fashion brands and figures gave her access to distribution and marketing channels allowing he to scale her business at a rapid rate.

And again, you may not care for Kim K as a person, but my point being, you have to find what works for you and what you can bring to the market that others can't. Some of the most well-known figures within our society across varying industries/sectors (both historical and present) may not have been liked or admired by everyone, but their work or accomplishments were influential and changed the way their consumers or counterparts experienced the world. Find ways you can make your digital marketing unique even if that means improving what already (making a better mousetrap). You also need to tap into existing resources and people (individuals you may know, platforms like LinkedIn, etc.) who have experience within your field to help get you started.

The great thing about the internet is, there are thousands of free resources and ideas at your disposal. I love to watch Shark Tank as do millions of people in America, some of the most successful individuals on that show, began watching as a child and built their business acumen for free. They then expanded on the foundations with an idea or a solution to a simple problem, and a lot of times partnered with family or friends that bring an area of expertise to their business that they lacked personally making for a good pairing.

I have a Master's in Finance and it never hurts to have knowledge within your arsenal of tools when you're looking to build a business, brand or an idea. The more you can learn about your desired area of expertise, the better off you are. Take advantage of free and paid resources both online and in print. Absorb what you can, be confident in your skills, and find a way to stand out amongst your competition.

Good luck!

Hi Andrew!

We are lucky because we live in a time where we have the internet at our fingertips. The possibilities are endless. If you can think of it, you can probably make money from it.

You can watch some videos on YouTube about marketing. Or take classes on it.

As you know, a lot of people use TikTok and Youtube. Find something you're good at and try making videos! Make sure you post consistently everyday. You can create things like art or jewelry and sell them on Etsy.

Look up something called Dropshipping. It's "a form of retail business in which the seller accepts customer orders without keeping stock on hand." You can make money this way.

Or you can look online for jobs. You could do voice acting, making closed captioning on videos for money, writing for money, online tutoring. If you know another language you can be a translator. There's so many things that you can do. I hope you find what you're looking for. Good luck!

If you're looking to sell something, consider teaming up with established marketing platforms such as Etsy or Amazon. These sites are already set up and can provide you with valuable advice and assistance as you get started. Plus, your site will be exposed to millions of potential customers. Alternatively, you could create your own website to sell your goods, products, or services. However, this would require you to develop your own marketing strategy and figure out the logistics of sales processing, production, and distribution.

Wishing you the best of luck!
