What is the benefit of pursuing a career in the Software development sector?
I have recently been hearing news about the rise of increasingly smart AI's. I, personally would think following the trend and learning more about softwares then joining a company to develop AI's but I don't really know how much a software developer earns annually.

Hello, Jess! I'm glad to see you're interested in this great world of software development :)
The software development sector presents numerous advantages. The field boasts sustained demand, competitive remuneration — which tends to escalate with experience — and a diverse array of specializations, including web development, app development, data science, and AI.
Despite concerns about AI, it should be viewed as a complementary tool, not a replacement for developers. AI assists in automating certain tasks, contributing to increased efficiency.
Remuneration in software development varies based on factors such as location, experience, and specialization. Generally, it is considered lucrative, and opportunities for flexible work arrangements, including remote options, are prevalent. The ever-evolving nature of technology ensures continual learning, making the profession intellectually stimulating and rewarding. Overall, a career in software development offers a compelling combination of financial reward and professional growth.
The best of luck to you!

Well I'll answer the last part first and say there is a huge range of pay scales for a software engineer or developer, so of course it will depend on what industry you want to go into. It's important to say that what interests you the most should be your biggest priority. I work in a very data science focused environment and design simulations with code every day. I love that personally, and I really enjoy seeing how the programs I write translate into something simulating complex systems in the real world. But you can also design games, work in finance where you analyze the market or help people calculate a budget or their taxes, conduct research through a university or agency like NASA where machine learning is very applicable, go into the tech sector where similarly new kinds of AI are coming out weekly at this point, and so much more!
I suppose the benefit to going into this industry and specifically specializing in AI/ML is the number of opportunities you will have. If this is truly a field you enjoy and want to dive into, then I absolutely recommend it. You will (by choice or otherwise) be learning new things every day but getting started on your own early is highly recommended. There are so many courses and free YouTube series online to get familiar with machine learning and I would strongly recommend trying a few. This would include taking one or two paid courses if you can, just to really know if you not only enjoy the concept but the low-level math involved in deep learning applications (deep learning is when you use neural networks for AI/ML, so that's really where the math starts to ramp up).
The main take away I believe is that you will have freedom in this industry. Because you will be an asset, you will have your pick of places to work and that includes starting something brand new on your own. I highly recommend finding research opportunities in the field, either through universities or privately sponsored because these may lead down some exciting new avenues including working towards your own start up. There are so many options in this field so just start looking around and don't be afraid to ask questions.
It may be old fashioned, but start with a book on the topic. Here is a great one that also links to other sources if you want to do a deep dive: The Hundred-Page Machine Learning Book https://a.co/d/2fQqfNN
This is a great free YouTube series that also gets into the programming aspect: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLQVvvaa0QuDcjD5BAw2DxE6OF2tius3V3&si=V9s7r9Dlzh5Fcvic
Coursera has a number of paid courses that if you dedicate time and are a real self starter, can get you far.

Hello Jess,
High Earning Potential
Software development is known for its high earning potential. According to Glassdoor, the average salary for a software developer in the United States is around $107,000 per year (Glassdoor, 2021). This figure can vary depending on factors such as location, company size, and level of experience. Senior software developers can earn significantly more than this, with some earning over $200,000 per year ( Indeed, 2021).
## Constant Demand
Another major benefit of pursuing a career in software development is the constant demand for skilled professionals. The technology industry is rapidly growing, and there is a high demand for software developers across all industries (Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2021). This means that there are many job opportunities available, and software developers can often choose from a variety of positions with different companies.
## Opportunities for Creativity and Problem-Solving
Software development also offers opportunities for creativity and problem-solving. Developers are often tasked with creating new software or improving existing systems (Forbes, 2021). This requires a great deal of creativity and innovation. Additionally, debugging and troubleshooting are important aspects of software development, providing opportunities for problem-solving and critical thinking.
## Advancement Opportunities
Finally, software development offers many advancement opportunities. Developers can move up the career ladder by gaining more experience and taking on more complex projects (CIO, 2021). They can also specialize in a particular area of software development, such as security or mobile app development. This can lead to higher salaries and more prestigious job titles.
