What is the best way I can study for the MCAT on my own?

I want to go to medical school, and that is expensive in its own right. MCAT prep courses are really expensive, and I sadly don't have the money for it. I am trying as hard as I can not to drown in debt before I even graduate med school. #medschool

The MCAT is principally designed to test your knowledge in core areas and critical thinking skills. As a result, you should focus your college studies on scientific concepts and how they're applied in different scenarios. Take classes and courses that will prepare you to pass all four sections of the MCAT: Physical Sciences (chemistry and physics), Biological Sciences (biology and organic chemistry), Verbal Reasoning, and Writing.

The following link provides more information on how you could go about prepping for it:

Hope this helps!

During college study for and complete the MCAT. Devote an entire summer to studying for the MCAT and consider paying for a prep course if you can afford it.

My son used MCAT Complete 7-Book Subject Review 2019-2020: Online + Book + 3 Practice Tests (Kaplan Test Prep) Kaplan Test Prep
Sold by: Amazon.com Services, Inc

It was about $140 and he achieved his goal score.

Rachel’s Answer

If I may make a suggestion...scrimping on MCAT preparation is probably the worst way to save money. The best way is to get in to medical school on the first try. This requires a good MCAT score. The second best way to save money is to do well the first time and only have to pay for it once.

With a few exceptions, most people take an MCAT prep course. If you feel consider taking a college exam without ever having attended class, then you will understand what it means to not take a prep course. The prep course gives you a leg up. Don't try to save money by skipping it.
