What is the workload like in college?

When I go to college, I plan to get a job. Will it be tough to balance a job and college studies? Is there many papers to type? How long do assignments take?

Balancing a job and college studies is something that should be attainable. Assignments and workload will depend on the specific school and specific classes. However, you will most likely be able to get a job while in college. When scheduling your classes, plan to meet with an advisor at your school so they can guide you to make a schedule that is not too overwhelming and not too many advanced courses at once.

Many companies in a college town are used to working with college students, so you should be open with them about your concerns. I would first start working part-time and see how this works for you, then go from there.

Also, you want to make sure you are staying disciplined and perhaps make a weekly plan. Plan out when you will go to class, when you will work, and when you will do your assignments so you can follow it and be sure to get everything done.

Your workload will depend on your major, however, having a job and studying in college are absolutely possible and quite common! My advice when beginning a new semester is to meet with your professor to discuss workload, expectations, and how he/she will be able to support you in the course while you hold a job. Organization and time management will also be very key players in this. To better manage your workload and job expectations - utilize calendars, agendas, & schedules to plan out how and when each task will be accomplished. Having a job in college is super manageable as long you stay organized, get the support from professors or TA's as needed, and create a schedule/plan to stay on top of things! I wish you the best of luck!

It depends on yout course load but the key is time management. You have to set a routine for yourself and stick to it for the most part. Once you get into the groove of a routine it will be much easier for you to manage your time and have enough time for everything you need to do (including relaxing). Make yourself to-do lists on a weekly basis, use Google calendar or a planner to keep track of events, deadlines, and due dates. In addition to setting a routine and sticking to it, plan out relaxing activities into your day. Or set aside a time, after everything is done for the day, that you can have "me" time. I have also personally found it essential to not only find time for myself but also make use of that time in a way that is best for me and my holistic wellness. I have found the HeadSpace app to be an essential tool in helping me relax and generally feel more relaxed throughout the day, Guided meditation, even if you have a busy schedule, will make you feel more at ease and relaxed throughout the day as a whole (not just when you have the time to relax and focus on that "me" time).
