Hi Brian,
CAD is basically a tool that is used in many professions. It's great if you have already experience!
Mechanical engineers certainly use CAD extensively. You find job titles like CAD engineer, mechanical design engineer, mechanical CAD designer, manufacturing engineer, or just design engineer. Other professions that use CAD are electrical engineers, aerospace engineers, automotive engineers, industrial designers, architects, or interior architects.
A good career is one that suits you. With engineering and CAD you have desirable skills. You just need to find out which field you are most interested in.
I hope this helps! Good luck!

Brian,
A great deal depends on the field of Mechanical Engineering of course. Doing you like designing things? Are you someone who likes robotics, or mechanism's?
Here are two sites giving relative information on what is considered the future of particular fields within the engineering realm. If you are not located in the US, try an internet search of "future of mechanical engineering".
https://www.bls.gov/ooh/architecture-and-engineering/mechanical-engineers.htm
https://www.bls.gov/ooh/architecture-and-engineering/mechanical-engineers.htm#tab-8
I hope you the best,
Designer Dave
