Are careers in the arts unattainable?
I am a sophmore in highschool beginning to prepare for my future. I am really creative and want to expirience new things everyday. I am very invested in the arts and would like to stay involved in them in some way. Here I am involved in theatre, dance, choir, Student council, and NHS. I am a good leader and really enjoy social interaction.

Hello Lyla,
Fantastic question! I know how you feel being a sophomore in high school and constantly thinking about your future post-high school and what is worth pursuing for a career. To answer your question about whether or not a career in the arts is unattainable, I would say it is attainable; however, I want to add to that by saying, like any career path to follow, it can be difficult at times when you may question if it's worth it to keep going.
For creative individuals (like myself), it is fantastic and rewarding to do because all day and every day can do this unique career that involves expressing your creativity in whatever way or medium you want. The tough part of pursuing a career in the arts is not feeling defeated (even though there are times you will) when there are times that you thought it went how you wanted it to, but it's not. Even though it's hard to remember this, it's vital to remember to know/tell yourself to keep going because it's something you love and want to keep doing for a career.
I know this answer was probably longer than it should've been, but I hope this helps answer your question and most importantly, help you decide what you want to do after high school. I wish you the best of luck in the rest of your high school journey and your future career path!

Hi,
Good Question....and the answer is yes.
The Arts hold many opportunities ranging from media, theatre to crafts.
It's best to figure what you want to do early and then educate yourself on it along the way.
Here are a few articles on people in art that began at an early age:
https://irisreading.com/10-famous-authors-who-published-under-the-age-of-25/
https://www2.bfi.org.uk/news-opinion/news-bfi/lists/10-great-films-young-directors
You can also read or watch biographies of famous artists to get a background on an arts career.
To cut this short, careers in art are attainable, but you have to work hard and start really early. It will take a lot of work but you'll reap all your rewards.

Hello Lyla,
Fantastic query! The world of arts offers a vast spectrum of career paths, and your chosen path would largely depend on your specific interest within the arts. The opportunities are not limited to being an artist in the traditional sense, such as fine or performing arts. There are also numerous technical roles that contribute to the creation of art, including those in museums, lighting, sound, photography, film production, and writing.
Moreover, there are roles in arts space management, such as theatre management, and arts-related roles that focus on arts management, where you can support artists with space, funding through grants, and social media. Arts education is another exciting avenue to explore. So, you see, there are countless ways to make the arts the centerpiece of your career. It might be helpful to ponder over what excites you the most. Like any career, each path has its own set of advantages and challenges relating to finances, lifestyle, flexibility, and so on.
Remember, the arts don't have to be solely your career, they can also be a cherished hobby or a cause you volunteer for. If you have a passion for the arts and enjoy creativity and social interaction, never let go of that passion. You'll just need to think outside the box about how to incorporate it into your life. You absolutely have the power to make it a reality! Wishing you all the best!

Hi Lyla,
I wouldn't say that technology is my deepest passion but my job does provide me time and money to be able to incorporate the things I do love to do when I am not working. Even if you don't end up working in the arts, there will be plenty of opportunities to continue your passion volunteering or being in social groups that do those things outside of work. If it ends up being a great job as well, two birds and 1 stone!
Goodluck!
