Dr. Reeta’s Answer

Being an introvert is actually a total asset as a psychologist because introverts tend to be great listeners. Other qualities that are important include being able to engage people that are nervous or uncomfortable and helping them to feel at ease, having strong professional boundaries (which you'll learn in grad school), being able to manage your own emotional reactions and experiences when listening to someone else's life, and being curious, compassionate, patient, and helpful.

Natalie’s Answer

Hi Alexandra,

If by antisocial, you mean introvert, that does not mean becoming a psychologist is wrong for you. Usually introverts are really good listeners which is super important to be a good psychologist. Besides, classes in psychology, you need good communication skills, listening skills, patience, and a genuine desire to help people. There are also aspects of psychology that doesn't involve being a therapist such as research, teaching or forensics. I hope this helps. Good Luck!
