Faye’s Answer

Hello, Anna! Great question. I think I asked the same question many years ago. After graduating with a Fine Arts degree, I worked several part time jobs until I was hired in a telecommunications. Being an artist enable you to use creative thinking skills, explore solutions for problem solving and even encourages you to build better communications skills for others and yourself. May I suggest that you do not rely on the "just selling my painting" concept as the only job out there for an artist. We are valued in telecommunications, marketing, advertising, medical fields, designing, education...just about in any career. Yes, these areas and more will pay well if you have a passion for the job you are in. Study well; enjoy the journey and don't be afraid to start.

Darlene’s Answer

Hi Anna, I also graduated with a degree in Fine Arts major in Visual Communication and Animation. My first job was for an advertising agency and eventually ended up in the Marketing Department of an International School in Singapore. I also did a lot of side projects as an Illustrator for children's storybooks. So it all depends on what tickles your fancy because being in the art field gives you flexibility. :-)

Darlene recommends the following next steps:

Find out you strengths and build on that. If you're good at graphic design, go for online free classes, I found the ones in Udemy very helpful. If you're good in illustration, have a personal project and always keep yourself busy until you find your own style. :-)

Zaara’s Answer

Hi Anna, I am not 100% qualified to answer since I am a commercial artist (illustrator) but I am pretty sure museum curators get a good salary. It takes dedication, passion and years of work to get there, this is true for all fields. As long as you LOVE what you do and you are passionate enough to persevere anyting is possible. What do YOU LOVE to do? Take an account of that and your skills associated with that. You are brilliant at something and the world will love to have your talent!

As an option, if it suits you, you could consider becoming a commercial artist or a graphic designer. You would get comissions to create art for sale such as food packaging or wallpaper patterns. Commercial art has a bit more
