Listening is an incredible ability to have, whether for your career or personal relationships. Being a good listener involves being genuinely curious, focusing intently, and understanding both spoken and unspoken signals. These elements shape a fantastic listener. Moreover, asking additional questions is a common trait among good listeners. While I may not be a professional nurse, I believe that this skill could potentially be the difference between life and death, or between receiving appropriate care or not.

Being a good listener is extremely important as a nurse. Listening to what the patient is telling you. Listening for cues in what they’re saying that could reveal other problems they don’t want to or can’t share. Sometimes, just giving a listening ear is part of nursing.

Hello Jaynie,
Nursing is a profession that demands a keen eye for detail and excellent listening skills. You'll be caring for individuals who are dealing with illnesses or distress. They'll need your focused attention and someone who can truly hear their struggles and show genuine concern. If you're already a good listener, you're halfway there! Best of luck to you!
